Iggy Pop gets car insurance via SMS

Posted by themobilemarketeer on January 6, 2010

Loving this campaign by Swift Cover insurance that allows you to text your car registration to a shortcode to get a car insurance quote. The service is simplicity itself. I’m amazed that every car insurance company isn’t doing this. I remember proposing it to a client early last year and being laughed out of the room. Who’s laughing now?

Special Police Constables recruited via SMS

Posted by themobilemarketeer on January 6, 2010

I saw this advert on the London Underground this week. It’s a recruitment poster for Special Constables (basically, people who volunteer to help the police out in low risk situations). Good to see that they realise their target audience is very text savvy and may prefer that as a response mechanism. Shame more companies can’t see the same thing.

Books straight to your mobile!

This advert was also at Waterloo Tube station and is a fantastic example of an integrated mobile campaign.

Texting the shortcode results in an immediate reply that you’ve been entered into the competition. The return text also includes a link to download the first chapter.

Platinum mobile site

Clicking on the link takes you to a mobile site where you can buy the e-book, send a link to a friend and allegedly download an extract. unfortunately clicking on the download link resulted  in an error message “Download Failed. Safari cannot download this file.” Not sure if this is an iPhone specific problem or if it happens on other devices as well. What should have been a brilliant mobile call to action from a traditional ad unit ends up as a fail, which is a real shame as this campaign is almost there.

Still, I might win a holiday to St Lucia!
